 Art Walk 2014

Welcome to the First Week of  the 2nd Annual Merritt Art Walk! We wanted to kick off Art Walk right and introduce you to the fine roster of artists we have selected for Art Walk. There are 21 businesses around town hosting our local artists and we hope you will take the time to browse the shops, get your passport stamped and check out the great talent we have in the Nicola Valley. In addition, this year we will showcase an Art Walk artists each week and  give you some information about who they are and why they love the work they do. This week we wanted to introduce you to the  first Art Walk Artist #12 photographer,  Anya McVean.

Anya still remembers the first photo she ever took in the late 80s (with her father’s Konica – a camera that she later inherited and still has). Since then, she has been an avid shutterbug, and, after years of experimenting as a hobbyist, and taking classes to learn technique, she followed in her grandfather’s footsteps and took up photography as a business in 2006. Anya has a love of photographing almost anything – truly. From nature to architecture, and animals to plants. Her favourite subject, however, is people. She is thrilled at any chance she has to capture the beauty and intricacy of movement and expression in the human form. Take a moment and check out Anya’s current series on display at Mandolin’s Coffeehouse (1700 Garcia Street). In addition, Anya is the owner/operator of Blue Lotus Photography located at 1840 Nicola Ave, Merritt.

Get your Tickets to Shari Ulrich Today! Concert on Fri, Sept 20th

Tickets are on sale today so get yours early! Our 1st Concert of the season is happening this week, Friday, Sept 20th – Shari Ulrich & Ted Littlemore @ 7:30pm, Civic Centre.

There are likely few Canadians who don’t know the voice of Shari Ulrich. The Juno award winner and BC Entertainment Hall of Fame Inductee has been an unflagging fixture in Canadian music since the early 70’s. She was first heard in the quirky Pied Pumkin playing fiddle, mandolin, dulcimer, flute & sax. Her defection to the Hometown Band and a high profile launch to national recognition led to her solo career as a singer songwriter. She is about to release her 21st album including her work with Pied Pumkin, UHF, and her recent collaboration with Barney Bentall & Tom Taylor and the bluegrass band “The High Bar Gang”. The album was engineered and produced by Shari’s daughter, Julia Graff, currently getting her masters in music in sound recording at McGill. Over the years Shari’s career has included composing for film and television, songwriting education, starting in theatrical productions, television hosting, public speaking, and producing the songwriter showcase series, Bluebird North, nationally and locally.

Shari will be joined by fellow McGill graduate and childhood friend of Julia’s, the wonderful Ted Littlemore, on piano, accordion and vocals. For more information go to:
