Water: Imagining Life
During the month of March, artists will answer the call for a challenge
to display their artwork revolving around the ever-more precious resource of water. There will also be a display by the Nicola Watershed Community Round Table, that has carried out extensive studies about the resource and its use in the Nicola watershed. There is lots of info about the group and their NICOLA Water Use Management Plan, at

Connections
The Courthouse Art Gallery proudly presents paintings & mixed media
work by 3 members of one family: Bill Edmonds, Sylvia Gillespie and
Alexandra Edmonds. An opening reception will be held on Friday, Sept.
28th, 7-10pm at the gallery, where the artists will be in attendance.
The Edmonds are well-known in Merritt & the Nicola Valley. Bill was in
medical practice, and Alexandra was a winner in the Youth Ambassador
Program in 2003
Bill's fame as an artist has been growing, since he exhibited at the
Kamloops Art Gallery in 2003, a show that featured many, many paintings
from a prolific artist. "He employs a combination of media and techniques to convey these unscripted moments in life. He makes quick sketch-style renderings by applying common house paint to Plexiglas panels. Some of the paintings are then photographed and printed onto large-scale photo paper. Edmonds’ labour-intensive process creates
another layer to his visual exploration and reveals the charged undercurrents of everyday life experiences." —KAG. His MySpace page is at www.myspace.com/drbill66
Sylvia Gillespie has worked in many styles, and is currently in a mixed
media mode, working with the wonderful textures of fabric. Her work has
been shown on various art websites, but her home base on the internet
is at
www.myspace.com/sgarts
Alexandra Edmonds is at art school in Kelowna, and she'll return to exhibit her work in her "home town". She's been experimenting with many different media & styles, and has most recently taked up painting,
acrylic on canvas. Her MySpace page is can be viewed by clicking HERE

Images of Cattle Country, photographs by Murphy
Shewchuk
Photos by hiker/publisher/
historian/photographer Murphy Shewchuk were
on display last month. There was a meet-the-artist gathering on Friday
the 13th, 4-7pm. There were many black & white photos of ranch life
taken during the 1970s & 1980s, and a few portraits that many of you
will no doubt recognize. There were some great wildlife shots, too.
